T. H.
Roberts (1961- present)
"Corolla Dunes," 2005,
9 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
Private Collection
Born in Virginia, Roberts moved
when he was still a child with his family to barren Afghanistan in the
late 1960's before returning to Virginia. Recognized
for his ability to draw out creativity in others, he is best known for his
plein air depictions of water and family vacation scenes. In Corolla
Dunes the beauty of an early family vacation is captured with rich
color, shapes and shadows. Here, as in many of his paintings, an
interesting and subtle tension exists. The warm colors of the
sand radiated by the sun contrast the cool shadows and winter grasses.
The path, waves and bird contribute to the sense of movement in this plein
air creation.
